Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis/Screening (PGD/PGS) involves the genetic examination of embryos prior to their transfer to the uterus. The objective of the examination is to prevent the transfer of embryos which, as a result of the examination of one of eight collected cells, are identified to carry genetic disorders. Only embryos which are found to be fully normal are subject to a transfer. The aim is to improve the chances of achieving a pregnancy, in accordance with the rule that the key cause of pregnancy failure are the genetic abnormalities of embryos.
